Offering downloadable content in exchange for your contact’s email address or other information is a great way to incentivize people to subscribe to your list, and is commonly referred to as "gating." With Privy, there are several ways to gate content.
- You can offer a download link on your campaign’s “Thank You Page’
- You can Include a download link in your Privy autoresponder email
Each option has a different outcome and benefits.
Gating Content on a Thank You Page:
- Your gated content will appear immediately on your site after your contact has entered their information
- Avoids the risk that your gated content will be sent to your contact’s Spam folder
- In the event that you’re using a coupon code, customers will not have to wait to receive the code, and can instead redeem it instantly on site
Gating Content in an Autoresponder Email:
- Avoids information being publicly displayed on site
- Allows the person to access the download link as many times as they would like or at a later date
Gating Content on a Thank You Page:
To gate your content using a Thank you Page, first create a new Privy campaign. If you haven’t started a campaign you can click on the + New campaign button on the upper right portion of your Privy campaign dashboard. Name your campaign on the next screen, and then follow the steps to create your campaign.
Note: If you’ve already created a campaign rather than creating a new one you can simple click on the icon for the campaign that you wish to edit.
Once you are in the campaign you would like to add your gated content to, select the Create section on the upper left portion of the screen. Then, you will go to the Thank You Page Design section.
Then, you will add the downloadable content like to your thank you page with the designer.
Gating Content in an Autoresponder Email:
If you’ve opted to use an autoresponder email, click on the Follow -up section of your campaign, and select the Autoresponder to edit.
Once in your Autoresponder email editor, add the link to download your content so that immediately after someone signs up for your campaign, they receive an email with the content they were promised.
