When contacts sign up on Privy forms, you have the option of asking those contacts for information beyond their email address, such as their name or birthday. These additional options are considered custom form fields.
There are many different kinds of custom field types you can add to your forms depending on which Privy plan you are on.
If you choose to add these form fields to your Privy campaigns AND you use a non-Privy email service provider (ESP), you will have to match those fields between the two programs. This makes sure that all of the data points you are collected are associated correctly with your contacts. This is called field mapping.
Field mapping is a very common practice. This example video shows how to map custom fields within Mailchimp.
