This document will walk you through setting up your DNS records with Shopify.
Step 1: Add Sending Domain
In Privy head over to the drop-down in the upper right hand corner and click on Business Settings. On the left hand side click Sending Domains and then click the +Add Sending Domain button:
Step 2: Add website URL
In the dialogue box that appears paste in your website URL:
Step 3: Verify domain
Click the Verify button on the right hand side to show your current values and expected values:
Step 4: Current Values
Before entering any information into your domain, there will be no values found. We will be fixing this by coping the host (name) and the data information over to Shopify.
Step 5: Copy Privy Value into Shopify
Copy the expected value under the Data column and head over to Shopify to input this information:
Step 6: Setup records in Shopify
In Shopify Domains, click the Add Custom Record button to start adding your DNS records:
Step 7: Paste copied TXT value from Privy
In the Name field please paste the Host information that is found in Privy, and paste the expected value to the TXT value field.
Remove your domain from the host, in this example we removed .privydomaintest.com from scph1218._domainkey.privydomaintest.com - This also includes the period to the left of your domain:
Step 8: Add CNAME record
In the Name field please paste the Host information that is found in Privy, and paste the expected value to the CNAME "points to" field
Remove your domain from the host, in this example we removed .privydomaintest.com from s1._domainkey.privydomaintest.com - This also includes the period to the left of your domain:
Step 9: Complete entering all values
Your DNS setup should look like this after you have entered all the values from Privy into Shopify:
Step 10: Finished!
When everything is completed you should see in the sending domains that your domain is verified.
If one of the records is not verified, this is okay. As long as the domain itself states that it's Verified then the process is completed:
Normally, we'd suggest to copy and paste the entire host value like so:
In some cases, depending on the domain host, the DNS records will not fully verify when the domain is included upon being entered (There is nothing that will indicate this on either end).
What we recommend to troubleshoot is removing the domain from each host value we provide. Using the example above it should be changed to the following:
When the provided DNS records are entered into the domain host correctly it should verify immediately. In some cases there may be a delay but there is no way to determine this other than allowing up to 48 hours to pass.
Please note that it's okay if the TXT record for scph1218._domainkey is not verified. In some cases your domain will use their DKIM.
If records have not verified after 48 hours please do the following:
- Attempt the verification process again
- Contact your web host
