The Privy integration with Alia lets you bring Alia signups and zero-party data into Privy so you can follow up with more relevant email and SMS messaging. With the integration, you can:
  • Sync contacts collected by Alia into Privy.
  • Create Custom Segments from Alia campaigns, discount details, and mini quiz responses.
  • Personalize Privy emails and texts with Alia data, such as the discount code provided to the contact.
  • Trigger and split Flows based on synced Alia profile data.

Setting up the integration

To connect Alia to Privy, generate a Privy API key and add it to your Alia account:
  • In Privy, navigate to Settings > API.
  • Generate a new Privy API key. Make sure you provide read and write Contact scopes.
  • Copy the API key.
  • In Alia, open the Privy integration settings.
  • Paste the Privy API key into Alia and save your changes.
Once connected, new contacts captured by Alia will sync into Privy with the Alia data collected during signup.

What syncs from Alia to Privy

Alia syncs contact details and signup context into Privy. The exact fields available for a contact depend on what the shopper submitted in Alia. The integration can sync:
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • First name, when collected
  • Alia Campaign - the Alia campaign associated with the signup
  • Alia Discount Code - the discount code claimed by the contact
  • Alia Discount Text - the offer text shown to the contact
  • Mini Quiz questions and answers - stored as question and answer pairs, for example What are you shopping for today?: Gifts
Mini Quiz data is especially useful for collecting preferences, goals, product interests, or shopping intent at signup. A field will appear in Privy after at least one synced contact has a value for that field.

Create segments from Alia data

You can use Alia fields to create Custom Segments in Privy. For example, you could create segments for contacts who signed up through a specific Alia campaign, claimed a specific offer, or answered a Mini Quiz question in a certain way. To create a segment:
  • Navigate to Contacts > Segments from the left side of your dashboard.
  • Click Create Segment in the upper right corner.
  • Name your segment.
  • Click the Choose Category dropdown and select Custom Field, then select the appropriate Alia property.
  • Choose the condition and value you want to target.
For example, if your Mini Quiz asks What are you shopping for today?, you could build a segment for contacts whose answer is Gifts, then send that audience gift-focused email and SMS campaigns.
Use clear Mini Quiz question text in Alia. The question text becomes part of the synced data in Privy, so concise questions are easier to find later when building segments, Flow filters, and Split Flow conditions.

Personalize emails and texts with Alia fields

Alia fields can be used in Privy messages anywhere contact merge tags are supported. This allows you to reference a contact’s Alia discount or quiz response directly in an email or SMS. Common personalization ideas include:
  • Reminding a contact of their Alia Discount Code in a Welcome Flow.
  • Repeating the Alia Discount Text so the offer is clear.
  • Changing email copy based on a Mini Quiz response, such as product interest, routine goal, or shopping intent.
  • Sending different campaign content to contacts from different Alia Campaigns.
To add Alia data to a message, use the Merge Tag option in the email or SMS editor and select the relevant Alia field.
Alia merge tags will only populate for contacts who have a value for that field. If a message relies on Alia data, target a segment that confirms the field is known or include fallback copy that still makes sense without the value.

Use Alia data in Flows

You can use synced Alia data to make Privy Flows more personalized from the first message.

Trigger a Flow for an Alia audience

To start a Flow for a specific Alia audience, use a Flow filter where Shopify Tag is Alia, or use an Alia campaign filter where Alia Campaign is a specific campaign name. This works well for:
  • A Welcome Flow for contacts from a specific Alia campaign.
  • A follow-up Flow for contacts who claimed an Alia discount.
  • A product education Flow based on a Mini Quiz answer.

Split a Flow by Alia responses

Split Flows help you route contacts into different message paths based on their synced Alia data. To split a Flow:
  • Navigate to Flows and open the Flow you want to personalize.
  • Add a Split Flow where you want the paths to branch.
  • In the Split settings, add a condition based on the relevant Custom Field or segment.
  • Customize the Yes and No paths with messaging that matches each audience.
For example, if your Alia Mini Quiz asks What are you shopping for today?, you could create one path for Gifts and another path for Myself, then tailor the product recommendations and offer reminders in each path.
Start with one high-impact Alia field before adding more splits. If two paths would say nearly the same thing, they probably do not need to be separate paths.

Disconnecting the integration

To stop syncing Alia contacts into Privy, remove or revoke the Privy API key used in Alia:
  • In Alia, remove the Privy API key from the Privy integration settings.
  • In Privy, navigate to Settings > API and revoke the API key if you no longer want Alia to have access.
