Getting your first campaign launched as quickly as possible is crucial as it allows you to start engaging with and identifying visitors interested in your products. Fortunately, launching your first campaign is easier than ever and only a few clicks away.
Note: This guide reviews launching the first campaign in a brand new account. If campaigns have already been created in your account and you're looking to create a campaign for the first time as a user, please check out this resource on the available campaign types and how to create them.
Before you begin
Before creating and launching your first campaign, it's important to confirm that your site or storefront is properly connected to your Privy account. If you installed Privy through the "app store" or "marketplace" of your e-commerce provider, then this is done for you. However, if you're not sure that an installation has occurred, please review this resource. Campaigns cannot display on your site or storefront if the installation hasn't occurred.
Create the campaign
To customize and launch your first campaign:
- Navigate to the Convert dashboard.
- Select the Launch my first popup button shown in the "Welcome" message.
- You will be placed in the campaign editor, where you'll be able to edit the popup's content and thank you page to match your brand. To associate a coupon with the campaign and include it in the thank you page, check out these steps.
At this point, the campaign is ready to collect visitor information and can be launched on your site via the Publish button at the top right. However, if you would like to add additional form fields, include a coupon, or enable an after signup message, please check out the linked resources.
Add additional fields
To add additional fields to the "Your first popup" campaign:
- Select the Save button at the top-right of the campaign editor.
- Select the Form fields card from the Create step of the campaign builder.
- Select the Add Field button, followed by the desired field from the dropdown menu. To learn more about Privy's field options, check out this guide.
- Select the Save option.
Now that you've added more fields make sure to select the Popup Design card from the Create step to preview their impact. Additional fields take up space, so you may need to make some changes to your previous design choices.
Add a coupon code
To add a coupon code to the "Your first popup" campaign:
- Select the Save button at the top-right of the campaign editor.
- Select the Coupon codes card from the Create step of the campaign builder.
- Select the desired coupon from the dropdown menu. If a coupon isn't available, use this guide to create one.
- With the coupon selected, click Save.
Now you need to decide if you'd like to provide the coupon code via the campaign's thank you page or via an after signup message. If you want to include the coupon in the campaign's thank you page:
- Select the Popup Design card to access the campaign editor.
- Select the Thank You Page option from the sidebar and incorporate a {{ signup.coupon_code }} merge tag into the message. This tag will automatically populate with the previously selected coupon code. To learn more about inserting coupons into your content, check out this guide.
- Save the changes or Publish the campaign.
If you want to include the coupon in an after signup message, refer to the steps below to enable the message—the required {{ signup.coupon_code }} tag is included in these messages by default.
Add an after signup message
To enable an after signup message for the "Your first popup" campaign:
- Select the Save button at the top-right of the campaign editor.
- Select the Follow-up step from the campaign builder.
- Select the default message subject line to access the email editor and make any desired changes to the default content or design. Make sure to save any changes.
- After making your changes, switch the Published? toggle to the ON position.
The after signup message will now send to contacts after they signup. This message is not retroactive. If the campaign is already published, the message will only send to new signups.
Consider what's next
Once your first campaign is published, additional campaigns (e.g., Cart Saver) will be recommended on the Convert Dashboard depending on your account's setup (e.g., Integrations). The recommended campaigns also come preconfigured like "Your first popup" but can be customized to a greater degree. Alternatively, you can select the New campaign option to choose from a selection of other Privy templates or start from scratch.
