Privy supports two SMS opt-in methods on any display that collects a phone number: Double Opt-In and Single Opt-In. The method is set per display in Advanced Settings, and applies to contacts who sign up on that display.

Double Opt-In

After submitting the display, the contact receives a text asking them to confirm. They must reply Y to that message to become a textable contact on your list. If they don’t reply, they remain on your list but are not textable. Double Opt-In is the default for every display that collects phone numbers. How does Double Opt-In work?

Single Opt-In

The contact becomes textable as soon as they submit the display — no reply required. After signup, they automatically receive a confirmation text letting them know they’re subscribed; this message includes the standard STOP and HELP language required for SMS marketing. Single Opt-In is available in the United States and Canada (+1) on the same SMS setup you already have in place. There are no additional toll-free verification or carrier requirements beyond what’s required for any SMS sending on Privy.

Set the SMS Opt-In method on a Display

The SMS Opt-In card only appears on displays that include a phone number field.
  1. Head to Displays and open the display you want to edit.
  2. Open the Settings step, then click Show Advanced Settings.
  3. In the SMS Opt-In card, choose Single Opt-In or Double Opt-In. The preview updates to show the confirmation message your contacts will receive in the selected method.
  4. Save your display.
The setting is per display, so different displays on the same account can use different methods.
