Privy’s Back In Stock Flow allows you to capture shoppers that are expressing interest in an item that is out of stock on your website, and automatically update these contacts via email and/or SMS the instant that your product(s) are restocked. You’ll need to activate both a Back In Stock Flow and Back In Stock Display — this article will walk you through how to build each of these.
Note: To use our Back In Stock Flow, your account must be integrated with Shopify or Shopify Plus.

Create a New Back In Stock Flow

To create a new Back In Stock Flow:
  • Navigate to Flows and click New Flow in the upper right corner.
  • Select **Back In Stock **from the menu.
  • Click Customize Flow to continue.

Name your Flow

To name your new Flow:
  • Click on the title in the upper left corner.
  • Select “Edit template” from the dropdown menu.
  • Update the name and Save.

Build your Flow

Our team recommends only sending (1) email in your Back In Stock flow, but you can customize your Flow as needed!
Our Flow builder allows you to easily add and edit emails, time delays, and audience filters at any point of your Flow. To add a new email, time delay, or audience filter to your Flow:
  • Click on the plus sign where you’d like to add a new block.
  • Select the desired action from the following menu.
Once your new block is added, you can edit its settings on the right side of the builder.
Need more guidance on using our builder? Check out this resource on using our Flow builder.

Customize your Settings

Select the Trigger block at the top of your Flow. Your Flows’ settings will appear on the right side of the builder.

Trigger Filters

For Back In Stock, you have the option to add the following filters to customize which contacts are allowed to enter this Flow:
  • Skip Contacts in an Active Flow: Exclude contacts that are currently in the middle of another Flow, such as Welcome or Abandoned Cart emails.

Exit Criteria

Adding this criteria will automatically remove contacts from your Back In Stock Flow as soon as they take one of the following actions:
  • Order Created: The contact adds a product to cart and subsequently places an order.
  • Product Added to Cart: The contact adds a product to their cart.
For the most personalized customer journey, we recommend adding both the criteria above so that you can trigger a Purchase Follow-Up once an order has been placed, or an Abandoned Cart Flow once a product is added to cart and then abandoned.

Entry Criteria

Control how often contacts are allowed to re-enter this flow after they’ve already received it:
  • Immediate re-entry: Contacts can re-enter this Flow without a delay.
  • Delayed re-entry: Contacts can re-enter this Flow as long as a certain period of time has passed since they last received it.
  • No re-entry: Contacts will only be allowed to enter this specific Flow once.

Publish Your Flow

Once you’re happy with your Flow, click Publish in the upper right corner. You can review your Flow’s results at any time!

Create a New Back In Stock Display

In order for your new Back In Stock Flow to trigger, you will also need to activate a Back In Stock Display. Your Back In Stock Display will appear live on your site whenever a product variant is out of stock and give your visitor the opportunity to sign up for a restock notification. To get started:
  • Head to Displays.
  • Click Create New Display.
  • Filter the templates by Back In Stock on the right hand side.
  • Select your desired template by clicking Get started.

Customize your Display

Once you’re in the builder, you can customize your Display’s size, colors, image, copy, and more.
For further guidance on how to use our Display builder, check out this resource on creating a display.

Customize your Thank You Page

Click on the Thank You Page step to customize the message displayed after your customer submits their signup.

Edit your Display Settings

To edit your display’s settings, navigate to Settings at the top of your display builder.

Back In Stock Trigger

For this specific display, you’ll want to ensure that you only have the Show when a product variant is out of stock trigger selected, as shown below.
Note: By default, this best practice is already set up in all Back In Stock display templates.
For more information on how to set up audience targeting, attach coupons, and other advanced settings, visit this resource on Display Targeting and Settings.

Launch your Display

Once you’re happy with your display’s appearance and settings, and you’ve turned on a Back In Stock Flow, you’re ready to launch your Display. In the Display builder, click Activate in the upper right corner to publish your Display to your website.

Review your performance

After you activate your display, you can review its performance at any time in the Reporting tab. Learn more about Privy Convert Reporting.
